Moe Norman certainly reached and was never off balance. When reaching from
your usual posture you certainly loose balance. Just wanted to add that in
since it can work perfectly with the right posture. The feet sure needs to
feel solid before the swing, thanks!
shawn you always demonstrate practice swinging the club back and forth as
if its second nature to you but your practice swing doesn’t look anything
like mine. I feel this is a critical element that your videos haven’t
addressed. Can you please slow the whole thing down and explain what your
arms, wrists and hands are doing. Simply saying your arms should fall or
drop isn’t helping me.
okay okay… try mine too..
I try to be as polite as possible with everyone…I find this approach
easier on everyone…but I know what you mean and thanks for the good
comments…my shots are typically straight or a slight push draw…I very
much enjoy playing the power fade as well; Shawn
Hey Garrido, Thanks for the question and comment! When going with the long
clubs, it is easy to try and control the club and not abandon it to
gravity; you want to make sure you give the club completely to gravity
using the techniques you see in the “Student Swing Analysis” part 1 and 2
and in the “Taut Swing Philosophy” videos; then have a look at the “Through
the ball” to make sure you are minded “Through the golf ball” and not
trying to “Hit at it”; All are on my website’s you tube Shawn page
I also have had the same problem, but have read somewhere that there should
be a feel in the back of drawing the shoulder blades together (no tension
though) which help keeps a straight back but also aides in getting the arms
to fall into the correct place.I find this give me about the right bend and
butt protrusion. Shawn would you concur with this theory?
Hey Shawn…I’m having trouble keeping my head up….My shoulders seem to
be getting in the way of my swing….any suggestions? Great vids by the
way!!! This particular one was great for me….my instructor kept telling
me I was crowding the ball and told me to reach for it….when I swing, I
miss the ball more than connect with it. Curt, NY
Hi! Shawn, I wish I could see you face to face, so I can take lessons from
you but I’m far away from you (Cincinnati, Ohio ) Thank you for the videos
that you told me. I try the techniques today. Any recombination on tempo.
Thank’s again.
Thanks Shawn. Have not seen your video Golf Pro Lesson Set-up for all
clubs” and not seeing it on your list of videos on the website. Will keep
an eye out.
Hey Shawn, your videos have helped me get my swing back on track. One day I
had 6 greens in reg out of 9 at practice, and I wasn’t sure why. Your
videos have helped me a lot, thanks.

Hey Curt! I must have missed you a while back during my crazy season; sorry
about that! Have a look at my “Don’t Keep the Head Down” part 1 and 2 video
as well as the “Brick Break” video from the “You Tube Analogies” page of my
website; Let me know how you are doing; Shawn
hi shaun its me again i hope i’m not bothering you to much but are u
supposed to see your club hitting the ball in your shot because i seem to
never see it? write back when ever you can thanks!!!
@clemshaw u should be on the pga tour
Many ways to feel this: See my “Golf Pro Lesson Golf Swing Medicine” and my
“Golf Pro Lesson Don’t keep your head down” part 1 and 2; you can also see
“Golf Pro Lesson Set-up for all clubs” too; Shawn
All you will see down there is a blur, and that is only if you really pay
attention! I would not advocate you keep your attention there either! 🙂
Keep your questions coming, you are a junior golfer and are not of age to
work yet! Shawn
how do you know what the proper distance is? do you just let your arms fall
in front of you? i dont get it help……please haha thanks jon
You are probably too young to remember when Tiger won the US Open at Pebble
Beach by 15 strokes and lapped the field; he was way more forward than
today and had way better balance as a result; as for the Laid off position,
have a look at my “Analyze your own swing” video part 1 and 2 as well as
“student swing analysis” part 1 and 2 for a better understanding…Then
make sure you see the “How to swing WITH the Body” video; no offence, but I
have been teaching longer than you have been alive!:)
Start with the short clubs with 3/4 swings and work your way slowly to full
swings that require no effort (see Golf Pro Lesson Arms Falling and Golf
Pro Lesson Catapult effect) then make sure you finish your backswing
completely and understand when to apply the juice in the swing; which is on
the way down like pushing a kid on a swing…you are assisting momentum on
the downswing and not trying to create it with any jerky motions (see golf
Pro Lesson Stacked and Complete) all on shawnclementgolf
Thanks for posting this fantastic tip! You have just taken a lot of
estimation out of my initial setup. You now have a new subscriber. Keep the
great videos coming.
great teacher!!!! seriously best ever
It does not matter where you set the club up at address; what matters is
that the ball is in the spot where the club is going to pass through impact
when you are focussed on “whipping the club through the ball”! Shawn
Cheers Mr Clement. I will look into them right now!
Ive seen your video on shanks…but was wondering if standing to close to
the ball could also be a reason for the shanks. Ive got the one leg drill
down and think im swinging on a fixed axis, but when I introduce the ball I
still shank. I came here looking for answers and noticed my setup now has
my left tricep well up against my chest. could this be a reason for my
shank.
makes sense I like it, question is, in shooting through the ball, whats a
good target, thought to aim for, example: A is position at top of swing,
then B through the ball is where, I seem to hit ball and stop, and have to
be told everything in order to do it correct…Tom
