Just joined and enjoying ur vids. going to bin all other tutor and go all
out on ur tuition so lets bring my handicapp down from 26 to 16 . keep up
the good work?
Hey Peter, Great Video was wondering if you could do the same about wedges
maybe? Like Should you really have 4 or is 3 or even 2 sufficient. Regards?
Lofts – Sure. But what about shaft lengths? A 5-wood at 18 deg and a
hybrid/driving iron at the same loft will have different carry distances
due to launch angle and shaft length (i.e. higher club head speed). Why
nothing about a golfer’s ability to hit the sweet spot with the different
types of clubs??
Surely it’s distance gaping that’s important, not loft? Shaft length will
have an influence on distance, too and some manufacturers (TM) have drivers
and 3 woods with longer shafts.?
Ping G30 10.5 set to 9.5 (230), i25 5 wood 18 set to 17.5 (200-210),
Titleist 913h 19 hybrid (180) and 910h 21 hybrid (3 iron replacement)
(165-175). carry distances. ?
I have an 11 degree driver and an 18.5 degree 5 Wood. Works well for me as
the 5 wood is much easier to hit off the fairway than a 3 wood and more
accurate off the tee.?
I’m experimenting with no fairway woods, going 17 and 20 degree hybrids,
getting great distance, control and versatility. ?
Love the videos +Peter Finch Golf You and Rick are great for the game! I am
curious, does the shaft flex and weight make that big of a difference when
choosing clubs? I have a Speeder 77g TS 7.3 X-flex in my driver and a
Diamana D+ 92g Stiff in my 17deg. hybrid. How should I go about finding a 3
wood to fill the gap? Do I go by loft, shaft, feel, etc….all the above?
Thanks!?
Thanks for the advices, question is what if I hit a 17 degrees hybrid
almost as far as my 9.5 degrees Driver … should I use something in the
middle?
I probably should work on my Driver but again I am trying to keep the right
gap distances.. please help, thanks for all the great advices.?
I play 13* Driver, 17* 3W, 712U 3 iron, AP2’s 4-PW, 53* 57* 61* wedges?
Hi Peter,
It seems that many of the OEM’s are going with more and more upright lie
angles in both Hybrids and Fairways. This fact, together with the longer
length shafts in Hybrids and fairways is resulting in many Golfers under
6ft tall and/or with longer arms or low hand delivery at impact are finding
that all these Hybrids and fairways to be too upright for them, and hitting
the ball off the fairway is resulting in more and more Golfers ‘hooking
Hybrids, or finding it more difficult to ‘flight’ a Hybrid/Fairway wood off
the deck as, like with an Iron, if a Club is too upright, the Club has a
tendency to shut the face, and deloft the Club. Any suggestions based on
your experiences, for those Golfers??
Another good video Peter.
I would also say to people that not only is picking your clubs via loft (as
a starting point) essential – that people should be aware that that loft
gaps may not be even to get the best gapping.
When you are switiching between different brands and different clubs (ie
driver/wood/hybrid/iron) the shaft length and club design will cause things
to go different distances. I have found that I have some clubs in the top
end of my bag very similar or identical lofts – but it produces even
gapping. eg 7-wood at 22* / hybrid 20* / iron 20* all produce differnt
flights and carry.
It is ESSENTIAL that anyone wanting to shoot the lowest scores possible
gets onto a launch monitor and gets fitted properly. Dont be afraid to have
similar lofts in your bag – it’s all about consistant gapping from lob
wedge to driver!?
Hi pete. Sorry don’t agree about having a consistent loft gapping at all.
Surely the only thing that is important is how far you hit the clubs so
distance gapping is far more important. I use a 17 degree 4 wood that I
consistently hit 220 yards and a 18 degree hybrid that I hit 205. The main
reason for this is length of shaft?
I went driver to 4 wood, my 3 wood hits so close to the driver in length.
Then 7 wood and 23 hybrid. Finish the set 45, 50, 55, 60.?
Think that pretty much summarised my buying choices – i owned 4-9 cavity
back irons which i improved around the green with 48 56 and 60 tour wedges
– at the other end I added Nike Covert 11.5deg driver, 15deg 3 wood and
20deg 3 Hybrid – mostly i just use the driver and the hybrid if I am
carrying – I do feel I could probably dispense with the 3 wood as the
hybrid is so amazing and I always find myself reaching for it to the
exclusion of the wood even when it is in the bag :-)?
I have a 9 degree driver (280+) then a 15 degree 3-wood (250-260) and then
a 7 degree gap to my hybrid (220) so I just hit a cut with the 3-wood to
fill that gap distance at 230-235 yards. ?
Peter nice video but you are not the average golfer. Most average golfers
could never hit a 14.5 degree 3 wood off the deck or a 17 degree hybrid. 5
wood is much more appropriate.?
I’ve recently added a 58′ wedge & pulled my 24′ hybrid.
Top of the bag now goes:
10.5′ driver
15′ 3wood
19′ 5wood
21′ hybrid.

Think my set up makes sense??
I know you alluded to it in the video, but isn’t it more about distance
gaps than lofts? Just because I “lofted up” in the driver doesn’t mean I
should loft up my three would slightly to fill the gap…. I should be
finding the loft, whatever it may be, to fill the distance. Love the videos
by the way Peter.?
Hi Peter, I have a Driver, 3-wood, 4-wood, 5-wood and then 4-SW in irons!!!
I find that’s a really strong set up for me and right now I’m playing some
great golf, way better than I’ve ever played before! The one problem I do
have right now is gapping my wedges. I currently only have a PW (45 degree)
and SW (55 degree) and I have found that full shots with each leaves a
gaping hole! Luckily I’m usually a great wedge player and can manipulate
different shots with my PW, but I really would like a gap wedge, what are
your thoughts? ?
Another great video peter. Im thinking of replacing my 3 wood which is
currently a rbz stg2 tour 14.5 as I changed my driver from r1 to sldr and
have found it far more forgiving. To this end can you compare the sldr v
sldr s and sldr tp. Thanks?
SLDR 12* 3 Wood 15* 2 Iron (Mizuno TZoid) 4 Iron etc ?
If you’re not sure go for an adjustable 4 wood ?
No comments, help or advice on Hybrids and Fairways that may be too upright
