“5 minutes to the perfect release” ??? The title should read waste 5
minutes of your life listening to clay drone on endlessly about back of
lead hand relating to club face angle. Plus watch video of rory from a bad
camera angle which barely even shows his release or hand position.
Seriously…this video is helping no one.?

Its actually the right hand, the left wrist rarely cups or bows on its own,
its the right hand, remember on the grip you hold on with both hands, so if
u flip with the right which most amatuers do it wil cup the left, youl hav
better luck talking about the right wrist cause its more dominant?
Everyone employs some left wrist rotation (supination) through impact on
normal full swings. Some employ a lot, some much less. All depends on how
much bowing and body rotation you use in conjunction. ?
Clay, I have a bad habit of flipping my wrist up. I have since started the
9 to 3 drill with my left hand and it seems to be helping. However in high
speed video you can still see me flipping my wrists pretty badly. Should I
exaggerate bowing my wrist through impact until it is gone??
I would say rory has a strongish grip and that logo is pointing on a vector
more at the camera than to the target.?
i always hit hook shots when i try to rotate ?
Just love the description… Now nobody can stop me to become a golf
champion after watching this video. LOL
Thank you ?
nice video?
Great illustration?

Great video! I’ve watched the “perfect release drill” and it’s really good.
However I have a very strong right hand grip, should I feel like holding
the release longer due to this or should I really feel like my left hand is
turning thru impact? Also I have a hard time holding my left arm straight
thru impact, is this due to my strong right hand grip? Hope you
understand! ?
i hit nearly 300 balls every day i can. i have gone many days hitting 500.
but you do have a point. lee trevino used to hit balls all day long, as did
sam snead
You are absolutely correct. you do need a certain amount of clubhead speed
to hit the ball 170 yards. But if you are flipping the club and adding
loft, that 90 mph swing speed will only produce 150 yards of distance. This
is even more important if you have lower swing speed. If you only swing 70
mph and are adding loft to the club, the ball will travel very short. We
also have videos to help improve clubhead speed if you are interested. Good
luck with your game! -Clay Ballard
that makes a whole lotta sense. I recently change to a strong grip for
chipping and pitching and tried it with my irons and I like the distance I
get but if I don’t pay attention to clubface control, I pull it alot. Think
I am going to stick with the neutral grip for full shots. But if the shanks
come back again I am going back to the stronger grip.
I may do that in the future. If you have a stronger grip it will cause you
to hold off your release slightly or you will hook the ball. A weaker grip
can actually get you more speed once you learn how to release the club
properly. ~Clay Ballard
With the proper practice, you can learn to control the club very well with
your hands. We have a 9 days to ball striking series on the site which goes
over controlling ball flight. I have had many high handicap students work
through these drills in a short period off time and were able to hit both a
fade and a draw at will and begin to control trajectory as well. Anyone can
do these moves once they understand what they need to focus on. Good luck
with your game! ~Clay Ballard
We actually talk about it a lot on the site. There is really no such thing
as centrifugal force in reality. It is merely a byproduct of centripetal
force, which is toward center. Centrifugal force would be away from center.
No problem Chad. Good luck with your golf! ~Clay Ballard
I used to work at a large range where there were several players who would
come in year after year, day after day, and hit over 300 golf balls every
day. Most of them were 15+ Handicappers and never improved. Practice makes
permanent. If you want to get better, you must practice the correct
movements. Otherwise you are just making bad habits permanent. Good luck
everyone, I wish you all the best! You all have the talent to improve.
~Clay Ballard
Do you recommend developing that ‘bowing’ the hand to create that
‘de-lofting’ you mentioned to get more distance?
NOW I know why pro golfers can hit an 8 iron 170 yards…thanks for the
outstanding lesson Clay.
I play off 14 now, but my putting and tight-lie short game is my downfall.
I hit my PW-9iron as far as most men hit their 8 iron (160 yards and now I
know why! Now to practise my putting haha
Ugh, now I’m gonna go stick needles in my eyes.?
