Old school. Many now teach a much more forward (cover the ball) everything.
I’m not saying 1 is better than the other, just 2 different styles. Myself,
my weight NEVER gets behind the ball with the slight exception of the
driver (ascending hit). I start with my weight left — being right handed–
and am moving more left even before the transition. I do enjoy your videos
and swing though.?
mark crossfield and rick shields > this guy?
My knees hurt from watching this.?
so I skip the stone on a 3 wood and I hit down on the irons? Do you keep
your weight on your left foot or ball inline with your left foot or in the
middle of your stance? I think I’m always off balance when I switch from
iron to 3 wood.
Thanks for posting Shawn.
Id take his swing over mine any day. Plus more times than not the best
player in any sport is not the best teacher.
After watching it closer, the swing doesn’t seem to have as much hip sway.
It’s probably just all the knee bending that makes it seem that way.
@terps2703 Thanks; and it would depend on the model hybrid you use; I find
the Adams and Titleist can be played back like irons but the Callaway and
certain Taylor mades that are very shallow faces need to hit more like a
fairway wood; Shawn
Correct me if I’m wrong on this, but after watching plenty of instructional
videos about irons and hybrids, it seems that some instructors emphasize
that the hands need to be in front of the ball with a normal stance, and
other instructors emphasize tilting the spine to get the hand position in
front of the ball. Or is it a combination of both? I may just be
overthinking it at this point.
@jingoducky im willing to bet he would whoop your arse by atleast 20 shots
in strokeplay
Shawn….I have really enjoyed all of your videos and wanted to let you
know so. I’ve really learned a lot about my golf game with your help. I’m a
4 handicap and am always looking for anything that can help me lower it
even more. This video about hitting with the hybrid is very interesting. I
have never heard anyone talk about “skipping” any club into the ball like
you described. I’ll have to try it the next time I’m on the course. BTW, I
love my hybrids!
Yes i use a hybrid as a Rough or Fairway wood and it is brilliant for both.
i’m sure that ball hit a tree :’)
yeah they are good only if they are real ones
Terrific golf videos. I come to you for all my lessons.
how do you hit the ball higher with an iron? i’ve tried puttin it further
forward in my stance, but i either fat it becasue the bottom of my swing is
b4 the ball, or i try so hard to get to the ball, i end up covering the
ball and hitting it lower! any tips for hitting it higher with my irons?
I came across your videos some months ago and I had the same thought. It
seemed to me that your swing has too much moving parts that need to be
perfectly timed right. But I started to seriously watch your videos again
some weeks ago and they make so much sense, everything just fall into place
I’m still not saying that you have a great swing, but you are definitely
one of the best instructor. PS: Your YouTube videos are so good I don’t
know if I want to purchase your “DVDs”, lol…
Shouldn’t a hybrid get the ball up in the air more easily, because of the
weight and the centre of gravity? Oh, and please, please make a video on
putting grip, please 🙂
After this I hit a 5 wood 240 m to a target and landed after 1 bounce to
within 5 feet directly in line. At impact I automatically had a natural
tilt with a feeling of all the weight on my left side and I could feel the
powerful compression on the ball coming back through my hands from the
club.
Thumbs up if you think jingoducky is stubid person and Shawn got a very
beautiful, skilled swing.
not a great swing for a teacher
@jingoducky I have to disagree with you on this one. If you were to take
snapshots of the swing, I believe that you will find that he is in good
position throughout. Plus he’s a top 25 CPGA teaching professional. He must
be doing something right.
Thanks Shawn for explaining the fairway wood and hybrid. I’m a lady
beginner golfer in Australia and when I learnt we didn’t practice either.
When I got my bag of clubs I didn’t know what they were used for. When I
tried using them I would fluff the shot, lose confidence and go back to
using my irons usually taking three or more shots to get to the green. I
practiced with both clubs on the driving range today. I feel a little more
confident about using them in my game in future. Thanks again.
I’ll take it. And he can score par or better left ot right handed. My hope
is to someday get a lesson or 2 from Shawn
