When I tried to maintain a flat left wrist at the top of the backswing
while having a strong grip, I actually lost some distance because I can’t
seem to get maximum left wrist cock. It didn’t feel natural. Thanks for
this video. It shows I can cup my left wrist a little bit for maximum lag.?
Great video as always! ?
come.check my swing.out and.help out if.you can
Herman, where’s part 2? I am a fairly strong left wrist golfer but have
been making my right more neutral. I have it where you say to be up top,
but the video cuts off. need help getting the lag and impact position. I
can compress the ball and make it fly but I have to concentrate lunging my
wrists towards end of swing which I know isn’t right. please help me find
part two. you have the outside video but that’s if you have the neutral
grip. thanks!!
Great tips. Thanks for sharing.
I fall into the lack flexibility need distance group. I tried the strong
left hand neutral right hand grip with medium pressure both hands and
cupped left wrist to get some angle at the top. I tried to pop the left
wrist into a bowed position at the bottom, didn’t work too well. Can you
elaborate on how you “let it rip”?
Herman, i really like the idea of @push the butt of the club out on the
back swing.” I would love to hear your opionion on the use of pronation and
supination of the hands. I live in Cary and plan on seeing you soon. Grey
B. is a freind that suggested i see you for a tune up.
1) To avoid the hook, try to hold the wrist hinge longer in downswing. If
hands get past the ball before uncocking the wrists the hook should be
reduced. Obviously you can always weaken the grip if none of this helps. 2)
I still want to be “swinging” the club into a hinged position so it has a
smooth flow to it. Forcefully pushing out to make the wrists set may defeat
the purpose with too much tension. If you can have a firm left arm with
“oily” wrists, you’ve got it.
Herman, excellent video. Your ideas of “falling” into left side and getting
elbow in front of hip have been very helpful. Also lag concept very good.
How do i stop my shoulders from opening too fast?
Clubface is king, no two ways about it. Trackman data shows maybe 85%
influence on ultimate direction from face. It is entirely possible for
instance to swing in-to-out (toward right field) with face closed and have
the ball start left of target and keep hooking. Too much to explain here
but I might put it in a video sometime. Thanks. Herman
I’m putting link to Part 2 is in the video description. Title is
“transition in golf swing – part 2 of speed, power, distance”
you/re good. Have big hands too!
Herman your videos are great. I am a 50-year old beginner and have been
working on incorporating your right hand grip and position (holding “tray
of dishes”) at top of backswing, and increasing lag, all these things, and
it seemed to improve my consistency and power at the driving range. Long
way to go but improving…thanks a lot and keep it up.
Great teaching demeanor. You simply explain things simply, and with brevity.
Herman, love your videos! Can not afford live lessons with an instructor so
I use your videos and a few others to improve my game. Two questions: 1. I
changed my grip to a stronger grip as you instructed for added distance. It
works! but all my shots are hooking my driver especially. 2. When you push
the butt end out for more hinge on the back swing how much tension should
there be in your arms and wrists. Thanks for helping a struggling duffer
from Texas ; )
@cousinjuniorsamples High hands typically make it easier to coordinate the
movement of the club, swing plane, etc for more consistent straight shots
but might inhibit some of the wrist action that creates distance. I’m
generally ok with high hands for most players if they think it’s
comfortable.
Are lag swings used just for the tee shots? or even the fairways?
Herman, This is the best explanation I’ve seen on this subject.
Those distances and scores suggest to me you are doing pretty well. I might
leave it alone and keep working on course management and honing your
playing skills. If you feel like you can’t get any better because a certain
shot pattern is holding you back, then I would address it. But as I already
said, sounds like you’re doing pretty well so far. Keep it going and good
luck. – Herman
Herman, do you have a video on understanding ball flight? There seems to be
two theory’s out there on the net. You seem to know what your talking
about. Is it “clubface is king” or “path” that determines initial
direction?
very nice and informative presentation.
Another excellent video Herman. Can’t wait to try to give a few of the
ideas you mentioned a go. I tell everyone my coach says this…or
that…They ask..”who is your coach?” I tell them Herman Williams! I live
in California 🙂
Informed by Ben Doyle and his successors, I am a mediocre golfer who has
been trying to find lag for years. While the golfing machine people have
convincing concepts, I find finding them elusive. This series is the first
one that actually got me to hit shots with lag and energy. It shows me how
to grip, load the club, transition, and deliver. It actually works though I
need to make it more familiar. Thank you.
Hey Herman ! I’m 16 y/o and I tried hitting and changing my swing into a
lag , but what i noticed is that i cast a lot , but im still able to hit
300 + yards every drive . I hit farther then most average Teens , and shoot
in low 70’s . Should i change my swing or keep it the way it is ?
fantastic you saved my game ?
